Hunter Stewart on the Podium in First-Ever Race
Donates Full Allowance Amount to Susan G. Komen for the Cure
Hesperia (CA) Monday July 16, 2007 - In his first-ever race, Hunter Stewart piloted the no.16 Susan G. Komen for the Cure Ford Ranger Trophy Kart from a last place starting position to finish 3rd on Saturday night at Race Town 395 in Hesperia (CA). The 7-year old driver was the youngest in the field competing against more experienced 10 and 12 year olds. His race day started off rough when a starter broke before practice and then a clutch broke in the qualifying heat race. With virtually no track time Stewart had to start the main event race in the last place position. The motocross style start had 14-trucks fighting for a turn one hole-shot. This congestion caused several trucks to get into each other and some rolled over. Stewart made a smart evasive move to the outside, where he passed several trucks and moved into second place. He made an impressive pass to take over first and would lead lap-one. “All the trucks crashed into each other and rolled over and I drove way off the track and followed the black truck then I passed him and I was in first,” explained Hunter. Stewart was overtaken for the lead spot but held onto second for much of the race. He later lost a battle for second and was holding his own for third. The rest of the field was battling hard to catch Stewart. As the pack approached him Stewart’s Dad provided some motivational words over the radio. “My Dad said on my radio that if I didn’t let any other trucks pass me I would get a trophy,” said Stewart. Wanting a trophy, Stewart picked up the pace and finished with an 8-second lead over fourth place. The top-three were rewarded trophies. “When I crossed the finished line my Mom was jumping up and down and yelling,” expressed Stewart, who was excited himself about the race. The Stewart family was very excited about Hunters impressive finish. But completing all the laps had an extra special meaning. Stewart’s Mom (Alycia) was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and is currently undergoing chemo-therapy treatments. Last week Hunter announced he would be donating 1-weeks worth of his allowance for every lap he completed to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation. He carried the (Komen) logo on his race-truck giving the organization primary sponsorship. The response from fellow racers, family, friends, complete strangers and the media has been very encouraging to the family. “At the track this weekend people were coming up to Hunter telling him they want to make donations. Family, friends and people we don’t even know at all heard about what Hunter was doing and have offered to make donations on behalf of his efforts,” said Alycia Stewart, Hunters mother of two children (Hunter 7, Brooke 4). “It was an exciting race and it’s more exciting that we are brining awareness to breast cancer through Hunter’s racing. We never thought of it having this type of response.” About Susan G. Komen for the Cure Susan G. Donates Allowance for Every Lap Completed to Susan G. Komen for the Cure
Carlsbad (CA) Thursday July 12, 2007 - At just 7-years old Hunter Stewart is scheduled to debut in the Off-Road Trophy Kart Series event July 14th at Race Town 395 in Hesperia (CA). Hunter will pilot the no.16 Ford Ranger Trophy Kart as part of the Desert Dog Race Team. Driving his first-ever race will be special, but the young driver will carry more than just the hope of wining. He will carry the Susan G. Komen for the Cure logo on the hood of his truck. And in addition, for every lap he completes he’ll donate 1-weeks worth of his allowance. Hunter’s mother (Alycia Stewart) is currently undergoing chemo-therapy treatments after recently being diagnosed with Breast Cancer. “I want to help the scientists so they can get rid of cancer for my Mom and other Mom’s won’t have to have Cancer anymore,” said Hunter, in his determined 7-year old understanding of the disease. “I’m going to give the cancer scientists my allowance and tell other people to give their allowances too.” “I think it’s great that we as a family can find a way to raise awareness for the Susan G. Komen Foundation,” stated Alycia Stewart, Hunter’s 34-year old Mother of two children. Stewart (Alycia) recently stood with other Cancer Patients in throwing out the first pitch at a San Diego Padres game. The event was put together by the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation. Hunter also attended the game and took notice of the organizations efforts. “We want to do all we can to turn this experience into a positive for our family. It’s encouraging to us and it’s been a great learning process for Hunter,” added Stewart. For more on Hunter Stewart visit www.HunterStewartRacing.com About Susan G. Komen for the Cure Susan G.
